Rogers TMM 4 is a ceramic hydrocarbon thermoset material for microwave circuits. It provides an insulating substrate for copper conductors and is used in RF structures such as microstrip and stripline. It is a laminate grade, not a compact loudspeaker model.
Its material properties are relevant to applications that need electrical performance together with dimensional and assembly stability. Rogers also discusses suitability for wire-bonding applications. That does not mean every copper finish, bonding process or board design is automatically qualified.
Select dielectric thickness and copper foil before calculating trace geometry. The process dielectric constant and design dielectric constant in manufacturer information are different kinds of data; retain the associated method and conditions when comparing materials. Do not substitute TMM 3, TMM 10 or another family member solely because the names are similar.
For assembly planning, review the current TMM documentation, bonding construction and expected temperature excursions. Validate the final conductor finish and any wire-bonding process with the assembly requirements.
Selection and validation
Before releasing a board, record the exact material designation, dielectric thickness, copper foil, finished stackup and inspection requirements. Have the fabricator review the construction and confirm material availability. Prototype measurements should establish whether the finished circuit meets its electrical and environmental requirements.
