R/bak U is an unsupported open-cell polyurethane cushion material in the Rogers R/bak printing portfolio. Unsupported means that the cushion is supplied without a supporting carrier substrate. The product name does not identify a herb or a gardening method.
Rogers lists uses including cylinder build-up, spot cushioning and spot coating. The selected cushion becomes part of a larger printing arrangement, so its mounting method and local geometry are important to the result.
Distinguish R/bak U from supported grades and from U1A, which has a specific adhesive construction. Similar names do not mean that the products have the same carrier or attachment arrangement. Verify the exact product and thickness before planning a conversion or replacement.
For a local cushioning application, define the area being supported, the adjacent build-up and the intended contact conditions. Check whether the proposed attachment and removal method is compatible with the carrier or cylinder surface. Confirm the effect on coverage and detail using representative printing work rather than relying on the material name alone.
Selection and validation
Specify cushion thickness, carrier construction, adhesive arrangement, plate thickness and the press setup before ordering. Evaluate print quality through a controlled press trial using the intended ink and substrate. A change in cushion construction may require adjustments to mounting and impression settings.
