An IsoClad 917 PCB uses Rogers’ nonwoven fiberglass/PTFE laminate. The reinforcement consists of random fibers rather than woven glass cloth. Rogers documents the material for microwave circuits and conformal antennas, where the finished circuit may need to follow a curved surface.
Plan around the actual construction
The IsoClad data sheet describes lower rigidity than woven-glass laminates. For a formed antenna, define the final shape, support method and forming sequence with the fabricator. Avoid treating conformability as a guarantee of repeated-flex performance; the intended mechanical use needs its own validation.
Use the manufacturer’s dielectric data for the selected construction, with the test frequency and method recorded in the design file. Review electrical performance at the operating temperature and frequency instead of applying an unqualified drift estimate or a generic transmission-line dimension.
Prepare the fabrication package
Specify the complete material name, dielectric thickness, copper cladding, finished geometry and plated-hole requirements. Discuss handling and PTFE processing with the fabricator. For a shaped circuit, include the mechanical drawing as well as the flat circuit artwork and inspection criteria.
The materials directory provides a starting point for comparing substrate families. Send the proposed stackup, forming requirements and fabrication files through the PCB quote form for a project-specific review.
